12.1-megapixel Live MOS Sensor

The newly developed 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor for the DMC-GF5 features high sensitivity signal processing. Each circuit is optimized to minimize noise generation at every level to thoroughly remove noise and achieve superb image quality.


High-speed Venus Engine

The image processor Venus Engine is also renovated for the DMC-GF5. With 3DNR (3D Noise Reduction) and MNR (Multi-process Noise Reduction), both bright area and dark area are reproduced with minimum noise in high sensitivity recording.

High-sensitivity up to ISO12800

A combination of the new Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine enables shooting at max. ISO12800 (extended) and delivers sharp,
clear images even in low-lit situations.


Light Speed AF of 0.09 sec

	The DMC-GF5 features ultra-high-speed approx. 0.09 second of Light Speed AF* which makes it possible to capture even the fast-moving subject clearly. The Contrast AF system in the DMC-GF5 excels in both accuracy and speed compared to the Phase-difference AF system in digital SLR cameras.
* The time for focusing on the subject is measured with LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (H-PS14042) (bundled lens in the DMC-GF5X) to move the lens position to "2m" from "infinity" position. The zoom position is in wide end. Panasonic measurement method.


Noise Reduction System

The DMC-GF5 features two types of noise reduction; Multi-process Noise Reduction (MNR) and 3D Noise Reduction (3DNR). This system effectively suppresses noise in high sensitivity image recording.*

* Not available in video recording.

Multi-process Noise Reduction (MNR)

MNR applies optimal noise reduction according to the brightness of the parts of the image in both single shooting* and burst shooting.**

* At ISO8000 (extended) or higher with 3DNR.
** At ISO3200 or higher.

3D Noise Reduction (3DNR)

3DNR applies optimal noise reduction by differentiating the edge part and the smooth part in the image in single shooting.*

The design dispels impression for conventional big, heavy and colorless DSLRs. Although the round-form profile gives comfortable impression, its design is sophisticated and stylish. 1920 X 1080 Full HD Video

The DMC-GF5 is an advanced photographic tool for recording not only great photos but also beautiful full HD 1,920 x 1,080 videos in AVCHD (MPEG-4 / H.264) format*1. The AVCHD format features almost twice the recording time in HD quality than the conventional Motion JPEG and excels in the compatibility with AV devices like HDTVs or Blu-ray Disc™ players.

MP4 Format Recording

The DMC-GF5 can record videos in MP4 format. This format is suitable for editing videos on a computer or uploading those to websites. Resolution can be selected among 1,920 x 1,080 (20Mbps), 1,280 x 720 (10Mbps), and 640 x 480 (4Mbps), all at 30p (NTSC) / 25p (PAL).


920K-dot Touch Display

With the 3.0-inch large 920K-dot high-precision touch display featuring a field of view of approx. 100%, the DMC-GF5 offers both ease and comfort in operation. The touch-control system immediately lets you to set focus to the subject by just touching it on the screen and you can even release the shutter.

A wide-viewing angle lets you frame your shot in a variety of ways for both shooting and viewing. The Intelligent LCD function also automatically adjusts the brightness according to shooting conditions.

Creative Control

The DMC-GF5 comes with 14 filters to relay your shooting intention and make images even more impressive. You can also apply the filters in video recording.

* Star Filter and Soft Focus are not available in video recording.
** Sound will not be recorded with Miniature Effect in Creative Control Mode and approximately 1/10 of the time period is recorded. (If you record for 10 minutes, the resulting motion picture recording will be approximately 1 minute long.)

Scene Guide

For beginners of interchangeable lens system cameras, the new Scene Guide in DMC-GF5 offers 23 sample pictures shot by professional photographers*. You can choose the one closer to the scene they encounter and optimum parameters for shooting the scene will be automatically set. Furthermore, shooting procedure, technical advice and recommended interchangeable lens for the scene can be shown for users to learn photography.
